I have already worn out my first copy of this I'm looking forward to my safety vest orange version. What grabs you after a few plays is that the album is a product of the refinement process which combines multiple eras and genres. Impossible and quite rightly, impossible to classify or put in a box (Silver, Pill or otherwise) I was hooked by Keep The Change. It's perfect pop, but is not throwaway's skillfully written and writing at its best....uplifting and "staxy"...someone said it was Northern Soul(y).. I always throw it straight.... Mattiel has a great voice ...what I call a "Real Belter" with power and emotion. The musicianship is not to be ignored, it's clever and I don't mean in a "smart arse" way. My tracklisting is a little all over the place here...but my favourite song is Long Division...what a cracker of a closing track for an album.I wonder if it was the last one to be has that kind of celebratory feel, extraordinary energy, intensity, melancholy and ...harmonies. Ok so you'll laugh me out of the website , but the harmonies conjure up The Carpenters..but not cheesy...this track has me in tears sometimes. "And we all were taught to plan for the worst As if we had a chance to rehearse"....that's a great couple of lines.. What also does it for me is the bass line on this . It's busy but necessarily so brings the song to a beautiful climax. Now that I have all this off my chest...on the other tracks..Athlete has great backing vocals and as usual tip top guitar heads into Spaghetti Western territory too. Millionaire....I hear The velvet underground, and being a bit of a fan, it was fantastic to hear that influence (I could be can disagree!!) It makes me think that this album is an album for Lovers....Music lovers..!! Heck Fire next..?? Great guitar dueling..has a kind of post punk/funk The Slits with great guitar riff. Rescue You...Ballsy and Bluesy! Populonia....Rock Workout kind of thing (I saw this live last week..complete with "Led Zeppelin workout ending" as I like to call it! Blisters....Country meets Sun Rockabilly ..Oh Parton Me!!! Berlin Weekend.... I thought you'd ask for more....lovely guitar work Food For thought ..check out the amazing instrumental break...driving ...driving... Je Ne Connais Pas....Not my Michaelangelo..indeed..but another cracker of a song Opening track Til The Moment of Death... I guess eases you into the album...gently before opening up that magical box of the rest of the album Lyrics as always are intelligent..and both hard hitting and funny!! Hardly something that would come off a factory production line...this is a pure Custom made One off special. Play it til you wear yours out too.....
