Margaret Glaspy’s third album Echo The Diamond emerged from a deliberate stripping-away of artifice to reveal life for all its harsh truths and ineffable beauty. Informed by profound loss, the album finds the New York-based musician sorting through that pain to piece together indelible fragments of wisdom. Produced by Glaspy with her partner, guitarist/composer Julian Lage, it expands on the frenetic vitality of her widely acclaimed debut Emotions and Math. On the new album, Glaspy recorded with bassist Chris Morrissey (Andrew Bird, Lucius, Ben Kweller) and drummer/percussionist David King of The Bad Plus.

Margaret Glaspy is the coolest gal at the party. Hands down. You might not know it yet, but you'll be thrilled when you find out. I won't say she can do no wrong, but I can't find anything to indict her on, either. I thought Devotion was an intriguing left turn from Emotions, with some truly great melodies, but I admit I missed her soulful, edgy guitar expressions. So it's gratifying to hear her returning to it on Echo. It's a simpler approach than Emotions, guitar-wise, but it's fresh and just as deep. I appreciate MG's commitment to the small trio and crafting immediate, earnest songs with a ton of space. If she keeps on keeping on this way I shall never complain. I loved it on first listen, and second, and third. A+ This woman is the real deal and frankly, she gives me hope for the future of American songwriting and songwriters.

I'm a fan of Margaret Glaspy and have been for awhile. I'd listened to the song "Act Natural" a metric crap tonne and knew I wanted to buy this album. It's important to support artists you like. The whole album is great. The song Act Natural is a great pop(ish) love song, but it's still a fairly dark set of songs. I've only listened to it 5 or 6 times all the way through, but a couple of the outstanding (for me) songs are "Turn the Engine" and "People Who Talk", but honestly, the whole album is all killer and no filler. I f*cking love this album!!!!
